Maryland Correctional Training Center Announces Employees of the Year

TOWSON, MD (May 11, 2011) – As the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) celebrates Employee Appreciation Week, the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown announces their 2010 Employees of the Year - Cody Ann Eccard, Social Work, Rodney Gardenhour, COII, Keith Morgan, COII, Roger Shearer, COII and Holly Weiland, Office Secretary II.

Mrs. Eccard did an exemplary job representing the Social Work Department during 2010 through a strong knowledge base, commitment to professionalism and persistence in problem solving that is recognized by others in the institution. She has been employed by MCTC since February of 2008.

COII Gardenhour undertook the special assignment of maintaining security throughout the ongoing construction at MCTC. Employed at MCTC since May of 2000, COII Gardenhour’s knowledge and commitment to safety have been vital over the past year to the various projects and the continued flow of prison operations during that time.

With over seven years of service on the 4 – 12 shift, and nearly nine years as an employee at the institution, COII Morgan is a Senior Officer that is looked to regularly by newer staff for advice and guidance. Mr. Morgan was chosen as an employee of the year because he can be counted on to handle any situation in a professional manner, and is a consistent team player.

COII Shearer has demonstrated his excellence and dedication as the Traffic Officer on the 12-8 shift. Mr. Shearer’s experience lends to being team oriented, professional and thorough when communicating to both internal and external customers. Mr. Shearer has been employed by MCTC since August 1997.

Ms. Weiland performs clerical duties for three offices at MCTC including Transition, Volunteer Activities and the Chapel. During 2010 she played a vital role in the institution’s efforts to help offenders get identification such as birth certificates, MVA IDs and social security cards under a Department-wide initiative to improve reentry. Besides her regular duties, she also assists with the Md. Charity Campaign and is a member of the Employee Appreciation Committee. Ms. Weiland has been employed by MCTC since May 2005.

Maryland Correctional Training Center, located south of Hagerstown on Roxbury Road, is a Division of Correction facility that houses approximately 2,700 male offenders. There are approximately 600 personnel positions at the prison.
