WCI Inmate Found Unresponsive, Pronounced Dead Wednesday Morning

TOWSON, MD (February 2, 2011) An inmate was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at Western Correction Institution (WCI) in Cresaptown, MD just south of Cumberland. Staff found the inmate unresponsive in his cell around 5:15 a.m. WCI staff called 911 and performed CPR until medical personnel arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cause of death is unknown at this point. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) Internal Investigative Unit (IIU) is handling the investigation. Maryland State Police were notified.

WCI is operating normally today.
