Eastern Correctional Institution and MD Environmental Service Employees Donate School Supplies for Lower Shore Kids
(August 27, 2012 ) --- Once again this year, employees at Maryland's largest prison, and the MD Environmental Service (MES) employees who run the prison's power plant and water operations, made a significant donation to the Somerset County schools. Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) employees donated $500 in Wal Mart gift cards, and MES employees purchased backpacks and many other school supplies for the Somerset County school system.
Somerset County schools estimate that at least 147 children are homeless and unable to provide their own school supplies. This number is up significantly from previous years. So the school supplies make a big difference.
Across Maryland, many Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) employees, in both the prisons and community supervision offices, have made an annual habit of collecting and buying school supplies for underprivileged children.
