Inmate Grievance Office
The Inmate Grievance Office has jurisdiction over all inmate grievance complaints against officials and employees of corrections and Patuxent Institution. Those grievances that are not administratively dismissed for procedural or substantive reasons are scheduled for hearings to be conducted by Administrative Law Judges at the Office of Administrative Hearings. The hearings are held in correctional institutions throughout the State. Most hearings are conducted by videoconferencing. The presiding ALJs issue their decisions in writing. If an ALJ concludes that a grievance has merit the written decision is forwarded to the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services for review and a final administrative decision.
